8800GTS 320 MB vs 8800GTS 640MB

It's been a while since i've dealt with video cards (last i was looking around for a card, the highest affordable card for me was 128 MB), But what i want to know is, between the two, will i really notice that much more of a difference between the two? For an extra $100, is it really worth it? I don't want to go out of my way and spend the extra money and not have it be worth it, especially since i'm on a semi-tight budget.

What are you using right now? I suspect not anything really powerful? What games are you planning on playing? Personally, I believe that either one will be so much better than what you already have, that it isn't worth the extra money.

The speed will be the same, however the 640MB will be able to play games with max settings on a wider variety of games.

Don't waste your money, the extra memory will give you just small performance gain

I would get 8800GTS 320MB if I were you........

But can you tell us at what resolution you play ?

Usually I've been playing at 1280x1024, but I'll be upgrading my monitor to a 22 inch wide screen soon, I'm going to be building a whole new rig. Would the extra MBs allow for better performance at higher resolutions? (I'm not too familiar with many wide screen resolutions, I've been playing with old school CRT bubble monitors all my life, haha.)

*might need extra RAM*

I happen to think the 320mb will perform as well as it's 640mb variant, 1280 x 1024, even on later DX10 titles.

What about at higher resolutions? Such as 1680x1050 ? Also, due to me being new to widescreens, Would 1680x1050 be distorted at all on a 22 inch monitor? Like, when i run things on 1024x768, it sometimes looks blocky and distorted a bit, will i experience such things with the resolutions mentioned about on a widescreen? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

A resolution like that would definitely benefit from a 640mb card. In fact i recommend one for that rez.

A widescreen will display that resolution perfectly. I think it's a widescreen only res..

most current games try running with a 320 8800 on games maxed out and at 1680x1050 resolution. it will lag.

Looks like i gotta save up an extra $100 :X

I don't want to have to upgrade like, a month after i get it, and i don't want to make the same mistake i did when i built my PC right when PCI-E came out and i built mine with an AGP card and motherboard. :\

haha, man it's all like that.

i started saving money a month ago. wanted to get a rig like 800 worth. now i'm up to 1500, and still keep adding and upgrading the wishlist. not enof, not enof..

Haha, i'm definately not going above $1000, if i have to i'll take the hit and buy some stuff that's a bit cheaper.
