So i was just wondering if its worth for me to jump from an EVGA 8800GTS 640mb (g80) to an ATI 4850 512mb? I can pick up the 4850 used from a friend for about $60 canadian but im wondering if its worth it if im only going to be using it on a 17in screen at 1280 x 1024 playing games like CS:S, L4D and Starcraft 2 when it finally comes out
Or should i just wait until i pick up a samsung P2370 and then upgrade, because i wont be getting the monitor for a bit and probably wont see any real benefit at this resolution right?
Im just unsure :P
Any help appreciated! Thanks! =)

PS: My specs are in sig

I personally don't think it would be much of an upgrade. It would likely give you a small boost in performance such as you'd be able to chance a setting to high that was previously at medium for example. I don't think any increase is worth the hassel of ATI drivers and overall poor compatablility and quaility of the their products. Save your money for an upgraded Nvidia product.

BTW can you not play L4D with everything on the highest settings now? I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.61Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM and a PNY GeForce 8600 GT OC 512MB on Windows 7 RC 64 bit and I play L4D at 1280x1024 with all setting on high with no lag or slow down.

I agree with him,i cant realy see it been much of an upgrade.

i would look into getting a 4870 or a 260 c216.

As said above, it wouldnt be much of an upgrade, the 8800GT, is about as powerful as a 4830, so lol its only one step above that, i mean, you would get a little performance increase, but i dont think its worth the money, if your gonna go for an upgrade go to atleast a 4870/90 or the 260/280.

I wouldn't upgrade anything till you got a bigger monitor. 1280 x 1024 isn't going to stress an 8800GT at all.

whaaaaaaattttt?

The 8800GT performance is just above an 4850.

alot better than a 4830.

to the OP...yeah going sli is another option but then you would need an sli motherboard.....if you already have one thats a good alternative.

i mean ask danny (Kornowski) He has SLI 8800GTS exept his is the G92s i think, but theyre good cards.
take a look in the screenshot thread :):good:

Ummm... what? The GTS 250 competes with the 4850... not the 8800GT.

8800gt does not perform better than the 4850 neither does the 8800gts

8800gts is very close so close i wouldnt like to decide! if you want to upgrade go for the sli route otherwise the 4850 wouldnt be enough of an improvement over the 8800gts

did you read what mx344 said?

haha well i apologize for being a little off...

I forgot to account those few more fps the gt has on the 4830...
They are very close in performance...

Point is not much point in upgrading his gts to a 4850, because there is not much of an increase..

I heard that 8800gts is more powerful ....the memory works at 1940 MHz allowing for a theoretical memory bandwidth of 62.7GB/s. I feel its a better choice.

from 8800 gts 640mb not worth to upgrade to 4850 for 60.00

8800 gts 512mb is faster than 4850

8800gt is slower than 8800 gts 512mb

from 8800 gts 640mb is worth to upgrade to gts 250

8800 gt is slower than 4850, 8800 gts 512mb is faster than 4850.
