8800GTS Not that impressed so far.

I just got the card installed it and OC'd it to 575/900. I then OC'd my E6600 to 3.0ghz. I was playing Company of Heroes @ 1920x1080 at max settings and was still seeing avg fps in the 20's in game using frams and quite a bit of chugging at the large battles. Hmpf. Maybe the GTX was worth the extra $180..... I do notice my ATI had better color too. It was more vivid. I installed the X1900XT on my roommates system and yes I did see brighter colors.... not that impressd....so far....

The ATi has AVIVO, hence the better colors. Something may be wrong with your 8800GTS though, cuz the GTS should get a little higher FPS than that. What FPS does your 1900 get in that game with the same settings?

Color could purely be graphic setting/gamma wise so you shouldn't necessarily blame your card.... As for the game, have you download any and all patches for the game because a lot of patches sometimes allow you to better utilize dual cores and newer cards..... Dumb question: Have you loaded the newest drivers?

Have you run any benchmarks yet? When I had my C2D E6300 @ 3.13Ghz, and the 8800GTS @ 660/1970, CSS was maxed out at 1280x1024 in HDR maps and I was getting an average of 200-300fps, and in FEAR I played maxed out at the same resolution, and I was getting around 80-150fps. I also got 43K in 3DMark03, and 11K in 3DMark06.

maybe its your power supply I saw a newegg review of a guy switching to a stronger power supply and seeing way better fps maybe thats it

I have an Antec True Power II 2.0 550W SLI. So maybe but I doubt it.

I get an avg of 60FPS in Fear @ 1920x1080 with 4XAA and 16XAF and all settings maxed with a low of 30FPS. I'm sure if I was at 1280x1024 this thing would smoke. I'm just commenting in real world gaming at high res it's slightly choking. But maybe once DX10 comes out it can perform better with all its streaming shaders. Hmm.

I'll keep it and see. I just figured 1920x1080 wouldn't be that rough on this card with my rig. My X1900XT did ok but at 1680x1050 not the higher res and I did sometimes see slowdown in COH on it as well.

Gee I can't help wanting to get cards with ATI chips here. The current MSI Radeon X1300 Pro may soon see replacement with the ATI R600 tail kicking card soon to come out.

What on earth are you talking about? Sigh.... Did you mean the X1950XTX being replaced by the R600 and not some dinky X1300 Pro?

Gee I haven't put the TP II 550w in yet. I'm still running the TP II 480w model until I drop a pair WD 500gb sata drives in and to correct the typo made earlier R500 model they have delaying for the last two years. That would take me right past the 7950 and X1950 series cards totally! That plus moving up from the AMD64 3500+ to the FX 60 will give everything a boost. But I still managed to 70fps at 1280x1024 in FEAR with same ole Radeon.

Don't get me wrong it's a great card. I was just expecting more than some chugging at 1920x1080. But COH is a demanding intense game. It's a 3D Rts. So the I'm not tooo shocked. Just a bit. Ah well.

Oh yes all drivers and patches are up to date. I will post more later about this.

Just for a comparison, what did you get in the 3DMark benchmarks?

Don't have the newest version yet. Will download and update later. Might be a few days. Busy sched this weekend.

somethings definatly wrong.

Got a guy who has much less powerful setup at a higher resolution and he's getting crazy frame rate at I think the resolution was 2054x1600 cant remember I know it was pass 2000. His frame rate was around 60-80 on Fear max, 200 on CSS, cant remember the others.

His 3dmark06 was about 6600-6700

he has a 1.8GHz AMD Opteron.
2GB DDR500 (PC4000)
Thermaltake 700W PSU

maybe he didnt have AA and AF enabled?

Maybe you should just get a 2nd card and SLI them ^^

anyway.. to be honest i think that fps is quite normal.. the 8800GTS performas about the same as a 7950GX2.. and that one's just a tad faster than my 2 cards here.. and honestly.. i would be seriously supprised if my pc would run CoH maxed out at 1280x1024.

as for the colours. you can mess around in the nvidia driver a bit too adjust them.. I found the colours to be a bit dull too.. then i turned up.. digital vilibrance (or something like that) up a bit.. adjusted the contras and brightness a bit to compensate,. and it looked great then :)

In Fear I do hit 200FPS in game but my avg is 60 but thats with 4XAA and 16XAF. My roommate has the same setup you mentioned above and my computer STOMPS his. I'm not saying the card is crap. So far COH is the only game it hasn't smoked. I haven't tried Rainbow Six Vegas yet so we'll see. I could also have been experiencing lag from the mass units on screen too. Never know. Lag would drop my FPS.

if nvidia drivers are anything like ati drivers, it takes damn near a complete system reformat to get all the old drivers out

do you think it could be a driver problem?

the nvidia drivers can be reinstalled, and even older drivers can be installed really easy. just run the setup of the drivers you wish to instal.. if they're older than the one installed atm, it'll indicate that, and uninstal them if you want to (need to reboot after uninstalling tough). so far,. i've never had trouble with their drivers.. except the newer ones dont allow me to overclock.

Thats not possible, he must have the settings turned down.

At first I thought he was fluffing my butt but he posted screen shots of the settings and everything was maxed out, the only possible thing I can think of was he might of turned AA and AF down a notch but they were enabled.
