8800GTX or 8800GTS 640MB?

Which would be better?

I'm thinking of buying 8800GTX and saving money but another $500 to make it SLI....

But then again, buy 8800GTS 640MB and save money like $350 for SLI....

Help!

depends on how cutting edge you want to be. if you want the (second) best, get the GTX, if you are ok with a step below that, then the GTS640. Either way you'll have one of the best graphics setups available. but personally i'd save and go with the GTS640s.

well what is the difference between the two? Is it just clock speeds or are there disabled harware?

Disabled hardware I suppose

8800GTX:
Core: 575Mhz
128 Stream Processors
384-bit Memory Interface
Memory: 768MB
Memory Clock: 1800Mhz

8800GTS:
Core: 500Mhz
96 Stream Processors
320-bit Memory Interface
Memory: 640MB
Memory Clock: 1600Mhz

I will overclock the core and memory speed, of course.

well then go with the gts, i mean if you can = those clocks or even beat them, you can get a 8800 gts to perform almost as good as a gtx =>

You can't get those extra pipelines though. (AFAIK)

So you'd still just be stuck with a faster GTS, which isn't a bad thing.

well yea, but it would perform close to a gtx. My 7900 gs outperforms the 7900 gt. That's what i mean, i know it's still a gts, but why spend more money on something that you could easily achieve.

get the 8800gts and overclock it when it comes available, you save alot of money and i dont think the price is worth the differnce from the gts to the gtx, also your gonna have to have a killer powersupply with 4pci-e pinss

True but the gs was only missing 4 pipelines.. I agree though, the gts is better money spent.
