I have an ancient motherboard GA-970A-UD3 and went and bought 2 8gb memory running at 1866 my cpu is FX8150. The memory doesn't seem to work in any configuration. Is it a problem with the 8gb sticks being too big?

Either the memory slots are dead or the memory is dead. Are you sure you have it fully seated into the slots? That board accepts 8gb sticks. Assuming you are adding these to existing memory sticks, are you removing the old and installing the new to see what happens? Or are you only installing the new sticks by themselves?

Then my guess its they are bad sticks. Do you have a system speaker attached to the motherboard? If so, when turning it on it should beep at you a few times letting you know there is a memory error.

Did you clear CMOS or anything when installing them? What BIOS config items did you use before?
