939 and AM2

I havnt been really keeping up with the new AMD stuff... Right now i use 939 on my A8N32-SLI Deluxe, is there any reason that i should swith to an AM2 chip and board? (not my specs)

Unless your going with an AMD X2 series CPU, there wouldnt be any need for you to upgrade. Personally I would wait until late July, and either get the Core 2 Duo or wait for the AM2 prices to come down dramatically before considering an upgrade.

Also note that if you do decide to go with either of those, your going to need new RAM in addition to a new CPU and Motherboard, since both of them use the DDR2 standard, vs the 939's DDR standard.

thanks for the advice... Is DDR2 and faster or slower that DDR?
DDR2 is significantly faster, however it has higher latencies, so it offsets some of the advantages of DDR2 RAM thats clocked fairly slow, such as DDR2-400 and DDR2-533.

In theoretical memory benchmarks, it can be up to twice as fast as DDR.

Although, in synthetic benchmarks and real life performance, the performance difference is negligible as of now.

see...there's this thing called search...and if you "search" "am2" then every question you could possibly asked would be answered, cuz there's a couple dozen of those threads going around

Don't be an ass fruscai. He asked if he should upgrade or not. Now if he was asking for benchmarks then he could use google.

I would have to say wait for the Conroe benchmarks coming soon. Conroe sounds almost too good to be true, so I would wait and find out! Then go from there.

How do i "search"? Whats google? I want to look up obnoxious sarcasm and elitism...

Anyway, I've decided to wait for conroe to come out and im going to decide then whether or not to get a (now cheaper) AMD or to try out intel. (I must say, 40% more performance and 40% less energy use is quite attractive...)
