955 to 1090t

I was looking at my system recourses while playing BF3 and I saw that I am consistently over 95% on all four cores while in game. I think my CPU is a bottleneck. I get the same usage whether I am playing at low or ultra. I looked around other forums to see if anyone knows if BF3 can use hex cores and it looks like it can. Do you think that I might see a performance boost from getting a 1090t? I was thinking about upgrading if I can get a good deal over black friday along with changing my RAM from 1333 CAS 9 to something like 1600 CAS 7 or better.

Thoughts?

can grab a 960t for 10 off on newegg now (115). That way you save a chunk, can unlock 1/2 more cores, and also overclock it like hell.

Being that I have a quad now I don't really want to bank on having it unlock. I would rather know exactly what I am getting.

well even with that gpu and cpu at that clock you should be getting pretty dang good settings, is thre an actual problem with your settings?

^ I agree, if anything Id get more ram :)
2gigs, I would expect a rig like that to have at least 4.
now if you have a phenom 1 like me, 2 is okay ;P

I do have 4 gb of RAM I just have 2 different sets of 2x1.

I can play the game maxed as is right now but I get stuttering in multiplayer. It seems to be with all the settings that I can change. It's not huge but I can see it.

I wanted to take the clock back up to 3.8 but I needed 1.5v for a 3.8 OC and 1.4v for a 3.6 OC. So I would rather not use that much voltage all the time.

EDIT:

Looks like it might not be a CPU problem after all. I might be going over my 4 gb of RAM?

That is interesting but I am still confused that the quad cores in the test systems are all around 70% while mine is over 95% all the time.

yeah, some others here had commented noticing approximately 6gigs used during bf3 play. and also i'd say a liquid cooler would be a better investment than a hex-core, since it can go to a new cpu later on, and atm 6 cores isn't very useful. but you could just dump your 4x1gb's and go to a 2x4gb 1600mhx kit for 47, then grab a antec kuhler 620 for 60 with a 8 buck mir. also they have deals on cooling right now, go to newegg's main page and click on the black november link, today and tomorrow's deals are 20% off of some stuff includint some corair liquid coolers and others.

posted after last 2 then they showed up, but also the 4100 isn't optimized so the usage will be weird, the 980 is a beast, and idk what's up with the 645, but it may have to do with any background tasks you're running.

I don't need another cooler. My dark knight handled my 955 at 1.55v in prime 95. Kept it under 55c. Right now I Never see it go over 45c at 1.4v. It might be different with a hex core, but I'll cross that bridge when of if I get there.

well i've never heard of that cooler, and also i noticed you kept it at a low clock and all so i was thinking it might be a lower end one so you couldn't go much higher due to temps, sry.

well the ram upgrade is still there for 47 for 8gb's of 1600 or some 1333 is for 40 with a 10 buck mir, but that may be today only, not sure. but that even if it doesn't help the game will give you some more room for multitasking and better performance on the cheap.

I would try to message someone who works for the game publisher and try to get an exact answer. I do use over 4GB while in game, so I agree that you should go for 8GB. And if BF3 does utilize hexcores, then yes, of course it will be worth it.

Alright I have done a bunch of reading on other forums and I found this link.

Basically it says that quad through octo cores get the same frame rates.

So it looks like I might be good with the 955. I might get the 1090t anyway later on just because I do use programs that will benefit from it. I am doing some testing on a friends system a bit later to see what the RAM usage is but for now I am pretty confident that I am getting a RAM upgrade. I'm looking at these:

Anyone have any better recommendations? Thanks again for the help!

That's what I was thinking. I was also hoping that the low voltage would give me enough headroom to bump it up to 1800 :D Now I am forcing myself to wait for a special and not to just buy them now.

yeah I thought about getting 2 of those but 1600 is probably fast enough for me. I might invest in a fan. I'll check the temps when I get them.
