9600gt ?

So I just built a new pc, but I don't wanna spend money on a beast graphics card just yet. So I decided to get myself something really cheap like the 9600gt. Would that be a good choice in 20-50 dollar range? I don't mind buying used video cards, and all I am going to do is watch youtube videos in 1080p and maybe play some old video games like gothic 3.

should be fine for that i guess but i think a HD6670 or 6570 is about 60 and should be a bit better, or a used GTX260 or something is about 50

Should be fine for what you want to do. I used a 9600 GSO in a customer's PC who wanted to do the same sort of thing (play old-school games). It's working fine.

Yes I and I have an 8800GT (essentially same card). They will play Black Ops at good resolutions.

I think I'll get a gts 250 after all, because its more powerful than the 9600gt and a used one costs about 30-40$ on ebay.

Try for a HD 4870 or GTX260C216 if you can. Much more powerful than the 250. But the 250 is still a great card. All it is is the 9800GTX+ with a new label and only one power plug.

The 8800/9600GT will overclock to reach beat 8800GTX, its no slouch ;) and will do PhysX (first gen to do so).

I looked on ebay and cant see any of those cards above for $50 or less?? Links? The 250s are about $75 shipped, and the 4870 seems to be pretty thin on the ground.

If he can get a 9600GT for within the $50 budget, i'd say that would be hard to beat.

But if you can find an 8800GT it will be faster, here are two of them.

To the OP, please also post your Power Supply Unit that you have installed so we can check you will not have issues.

The 8800GT and 9800GT were essentially same card. Till later 9800/250 were dropped from 65 to 55nm. The 9600GT was a G94 with half the stream processors.

Unless your referring to the 8800GS vs. 9600GSO.

You can say that all you want, doesnt make it true. The 8800GT and 9800GT were the same card. The 9600GT wasnt even the same core and only had half the processors.

My memory is hazy, thought I had that right, not convinced but ok, if you say. I know the 92 and 94 were essentially the same chipset.
