check everything out, I have configured a large number of 98 systems on DSL. Let me ask you this, in 1998-2001, do you think they only used dial-up? NO!!

Typical cable and DSL modems connect using ethernet. This being said, you could get on cable using Windows 3.1, or even DOS if you wanted. All you need is a network card and everything to be installed and configured correctly.
