9800 gt installation

The power adapter is only included in case you don't have a 6-pin connector built into your power supply. Using either will show the same results though, as long as you hook it up to power.

I have a 9800 GT and in the manual it doesn't say whether i need to plug in the power adapter that it came with.

It says if ur not using the power cable it comes with skip to next step. So do i use the cable of not?
and yes it can connect to my power supply, there is somewhere i can connect it to.

Some PSU come with a PCI-e plug - just plug that into your video card. If you don't have a specific plug for PCI-e - the adapter is used to convert 2x Molex plugs to adequately supply power to the PCI-e plug.

I just installed a 9800GTX+ this weekend - and my manual said
EVGA Manual said:
If your card is equipped with a supplemental power adapter, we strongly advise that it be connected at the time of installation. This supplemental power adapter ensures that your video card receives a clean and strong power signal that will allow it to function at optimal levels
