Hey guys,
I gonna be getting some money here for christmas pretty soon, and all I need to do to finish my rig is get my graphics cards. Which ones do you guys recommend I get? Do I go with a 9 series or a 8 series like the 8800 GTS Alpha Dog edition from XFX? Input very much appericated.

-Thanks, 5.0

tknick90,
ummmm, within the range of 400-500. But I want something I can run like L4D on, FarCry 2, WoW (sad but true), and something I can also run CS3 on for video editing and stuff.

If it has to be NVIDIA get GTX280 or GTX260 (Core216 I believe the better version was called), those are the best options with your budget.

Hackapelite,
Arent those cards like 400 a pop??!?!?! Im gonna only be able to spend anywhere from 400-500 and I want two cards. The whole reason i went with the FTW board was for multiple SLi. If not I woulda gone with the normal SLi, and thats just stupid.

Err just to clear things up Normal SLI is still two cards and Tri SLI is three. Using one card isn't called anything special.:)

shreny,
The whole point I bought the FTW edition was to put out better benchmarks. Note the vdroop control for oc'ing, the 1333 fbs, and the 8-phase solid state capacitors. If I wasn't PLANNING on OC'ING I would have just gone with a normal EVGA 780 SLi board.

Yea, that's the point, get a great single card now so you can upgrade to SLI later on when you have the money - if you do SLI now, you won't have room for an upgrade later (or does the FTW edition allow 3/4-way SLI? Regardless, by the moment when -and if- you'll upgrade, availability of those cards may be questionable...). I would shell out heaps monies for a single great card that does the job and use SLI as an upgrade option...

Also, I just had a look at newegg prices, there are heaps GTX260s (even core216 versions) for less than $250 including shipping, those in SLI would absolutely destroy anything you care to throw at it... and would blow any 9-series cards in SLI out of the water. Are able of buying from newegg?

you can fix vdroop yourself, and what size moniter do you have?

just a noob,
I don't have a monitor which is what I was going to get when I get paid next week so any suggestions on a good gtx 260 and a 22' monitor that is tight please PLEASE recommend it to me!! I have no idea what to buy but I can figure out how to put it together I hope :/

Well if you are going to SLI them both eventually, make sure your Power Supply has at least four 6-pin PCI-e connectors. If it doesn't, two 9800 GT's will flatten one 9800 GTX.
