no. VRAM and your regular sticks of RAM are unrelated/ I have the 9800gtx+ with ddr2 ram as my regular motherboard memory.

Difference in performance is not very big, either one you get you'll get an excellent boost over integrated video.

There's no such thing as a 9800GTS
