9800gtx+

Currently I have an 8800gt. I found a few good "back to school sales" on some 9800gtx+'s. Like under $200.

Is it worth it to pull the trigger on a GTX+ and sell my 8800GT?

Also, not assuming that I have a CPU bottleneck, how much better performance would I get (assuming that I have a current Intel dual/quad core CPU)?

I'm somewhat hesitant as I just picked up the GT near the end of June, but a 9800GTX+ for under $200 sounds like a decent deal to me.:D

Any input?

i would recommend getting another 8800gt and going SLI. the performance of 2 8800gt's is about the same as a gtx260 or a 4870

I also thought about doing that...but before I do that I will upgrade my mobo+cpu, because we all know a 4600+ is going to be a bottleneck for an SLI setup...

So assuming that my new mobo has SLI, it does make some sense to pick up an 8800gt for a good price and just pop it in...

I really should stop browsing tigerdirect/ncix/directcanada...lol...deals make me excited

I recently SLIed my 8800GT and love it.

NICE! I like your motherboard too; When I get a new mobo it will be between yours or the Asus p5n-d. (Probably will depend on the price). Also the cool think about the 750i FTW is that it supports x16 on both lanes and is compatible with PCI-e 2.0 cards so you know you're getting max performance...topped off with a little OC'ing...man....you're laughing;)

If you're going to get a new card I would think it would be best to upgrade less than once a year. NVidia and ATi release like 10 new cards a year, and prices drop almost weekly, haha. I would think the best deal is when you're doing a drastic upgrade. I mean if you want that 9800GTX+ I would just wait about 6 months, it will probably hit the price of the current 8800GT's in no time. =P

Jump on the bandwagon, eh! Buy the FTW MOBO and go SLI... Derek, I hate you! You used to be cool! :P Just you wait till I get some money!

Anyway, I think you should go SLI, you can take some huge res' then too and crank the AA up!
