9850 vs 9950

Is the $20 difference worth it? I was also wondering how I can tell if I get a B3 stepping or not. WHat are your thoughts on this CPU? I will have it replace a 4600+ since its bottlenecking my HD4850 tremendously in UT3 and Crysis. Is the phenom about equal to a Q6600 as far as performance goes? I dont want to have to buy a Intel board so I thought I would get the phenom to save money and still get a quad core CPU. Thanks for any help.

If it has a "50" at the end rather than "00", it's B3. Both of those CPUs are B3 steppings. All 9x50 and 8x50 CPUs are B3s, the older 8x00 and 9x00 CPUs have this nasty bug, fix for which causes quite significant performance loss.

EDIT: Also, the difference between those CPUs is a mere 100MHz (AFAIK) clockspeed, it's not worth it and if you really want that extra 100MHz you can easily overclock the 9850.

just my thoughts, I honestly dont need the 9850 to go above 3GHZ if that. Its not like ill see a huge increase in gaming past that anyways right?

Well you can't get a Phenom past 3GHz, so...2.6-2.8 is around the best the current ones can do.

In the anandtech review the 9950 actually consumed less power than the 9850. I think the 9950 is your best bet.

i can sell you my 9500 phenom for cheap
No you can't. You need at least 100 posts to sell stuff here. Not to mention that your CPU is an old stepping, 9x00s were the ones they rushed out and they're rather buggy...
