A 1999 Computer using linux?

I have a old computer from around 1999.
I've used it with Win98,Win2000 and I wonder if I can use some Linux on it,as windows 2000 is a little old now.
Maybe some old ubuntu? I am a little noob at linux..
Some info about the computer:
128MB of ram
8 Gb hdd
Intel pentium II 400mhz
and that's it..it has no costum graphics card or sound card,it just has a network card and the other stuff it runs on integrated.
Thanks in advice!

You can probably use even a newer version. The only thing to be careful of is sometimes the video drivers for those old Intel integrated videos are a little wonky. Kind of have to handle issues as you get to them.

If you have video issues, you can always switch to a TTY login with Ctrl-Alt-F# (1-4 at least, sometimes more) to try and address the issue.

Sure, you might want to add some more RAM for a more seamless experience but you should be able to run something reasonable.

It was only recently that some 386 code was deprecated from the kernel, you have plenty of room with a P2.

If you plan on using this on any vaguely regular basis it might be a better idea to pick up a raspberry pi 3 which will give you better performance and offset the cost of electricity, however.

I'll be sure to try some of you're suggestions.
I've never heard of absolute linux,i'll try it first in a virtual machine.
Thanks for your quick response!

Ubuntu is probably out of the question, I have a P3 800MHz with 256MB RAM machine that I don't think has run Ubuntu properly since the 7.xx and even then it was a bit of a pain. TinyCore, Puppy Linux and Slitaz are some very lightweight options that can run reasonably comfortably with your RAM, with Puppy being reasonably easy to get started with. There's also Damn Small Linux, which is quite old and based on an ancient version of Debian but will probably run with no issues on that machine.
