A couple of questions about buying a laptop computer

Hi I'd like to purchase a laptop that I will use it mainly for simple web browsing and sometimes video cutting and joining and uploading to youtube. I will use it on average 6-8 hours a day. I have some questions

1. Which brands make the best quality laptop and which one makes the worst ? Acer? Fujitsu? Lenovo? Dell ??
I want a durable laptop computer that can last for years under normal conditions.

2. Is Intel i3 and 4GB RAM sufficient for running windows 8 or windows 10? My desktop is running slow on Intel i5, 8GB RAM with Windows 7 Home Premium. However, I see a lot of laptops in the market now still using i3 and 4GB RAM

3. 4GB or 8GB RAM??

4. Can I skip a display card? I will NOT play any games but I will want to add some effects to my video clips.

5. Is SSD a wise choice for a laptop? Since a laptop would be brought around.....

Thank you!!

1. Dell Latitude, Lenovo ThinkPad, HP Elitebook
2. I'd get an i5 at the least.
3. 8GB
4. Yes. Integrated chipsets will be fine for your use.
5. I'd get an SSD just for speed. I also recommend them in laptops in case it accidentally gets dropped.

Most big name laptop manufacturers are pretty similar, when you narrow your search to a few models then compare them.

An Intel i3 is fine for basic tasks, however it's going to really struggle for video editing, especially with integrated video - get an i5 if you can. I also wouldn't get less than 8GB of RAM.

You can skip a dedicated video card, but just be aware that it's going to be choppy when editing HD video, with long encode and processing times.

I would definitely get an SSD if you can afford it, it makes a noticeable performance improvement.

I'm partial to Asus laptops myself, but really most brands are pretty good. It's better too look at individual models in terms of durability rather than blanket assumptions about a brand. I by default stay away from Dell machines, but there are definitely some very nice Dell machines.

If you're going to be using the laptop frequently and want it to last a while, invest in a decent cooling pad.

Hi, I see a lot of economic laptops in the market nowadays still with 4GB RAM only. I would like to know if it's actually already sufficient to use 4GB RAM?? (I don't play ANY games) Thank you!

Video editing takes up more RAM than casual video gaming.
