Ive been repairing computers for a little extra cash on the side and recently I had a customer come in asking to see if his A/D converter is working properly. I havnt a clue as to how I would go about making sure it is converting/receiving/transmitting correctly. He prefers to keep the computer at his house and I dont have it at the moment to see what model card it is. Does anyone have a suggestion for what I should do/bring next time to test his equipment?

A/D converter? Are those just little chips on sounds cards and the such that converts continuous signals to discrete digital numbers. I didn't know you can fix those. Well of course you can fix it, but I don't think its worth the trouble.

I have heard that some sound cards have them. But yes, it converts Analog signals to Digital ones. Its not really fixing them, its just testing them to see if they work. And if it doesnt, then the guy will purchase a new one. I have no idea how to test it though.

Why would he know nothing about it?

I might resort to just saying I dont know, but not until I get a couple different views from people who might know a bit more on the subject.
