ok when i looked at an amd dual core specs it say its a 4800 + bu it prosseses at 2.4 does that mean 2.4 each core because when i looked at the 4400+ it said it was at 2.2 and so on the 4200 was at 2.1 but the 3800 was at 2.0 so is it 2.4 for each core
 
amd uses numbers to represent performance... the higher the numbers the (supposedly) better performance... as for the dual core running at 2.4 per core... that's wrong... it's 2.4 Ghz for both cores... so theoretically each core could run at anything from 0-2.4 Ghz with the other running at whatever's left over... more likely that both cores run at 1.2 Ghz a piece...

the core theory is my own so if anyone can prove it wrong please do...

No, they are both running at 2.4Ghz, but what people soemtimes get mixed up with is that they think their processor is running at 4.8Ghz (2.4 x 2)
 
well... if each core runs at 2.4 Ghz, wouldn't it be safe to assume that the combined speed would be 4.8?
 
Never assume anything. Just kidding!! On a real note, I would like to know this also because I have an x2 4800+.

lol ps3 will have more than 10 cpu cores,,,
doesn't mean that its going to be better than computers...

i am guessing many cores can be helpful playing games, where many things process at the same time

Each core does run at 2.4Ghz. But the reason why its not 4.8Ghz is because a single thread cannot make use of both cores, hence it cant go above 2.4Ghz.

I know the PS3 has more, but i dont think it has 10.

so if both cores are active with two different threads at max clock speed, you could theoretically say that the processor is running at 4.8 Ghz not?

no it is like running top diferent aplications on two 2.4 seperat computers but in this case it is teh same cpu so u are running things aon 2 2.4prossesors so u couldnt say it is at 4.8 because they wont both combine themselves towards teh one thing
