A few questions about Linux

When my new computer finally gets built I'm going to be moving this computer down stairs to my drum room. I won't be doing any serious audio recording/mixing but mainly just want to have a computer in reach for when I'm at my kit.

Anyway I'm planning on dual booting Linux with Windows XP. I currently have XP Pro on this machine. For a user that is completely accustomed to Windows XP what Linux platform would you recommend? My only programming knowledge is from a years worth of Visual Basic classes at my High School. I don't have a Windows disc, this is just an old office computer that was given to me for free by my Dad.

Thanks for any help!

What are you using for Linux right now?

Some good distributions that are good for Linux beginners are any of the -buntu variants, Linux Mint, Open SUSE. If you are doing some audio work you can try out Ubuntu Studio.

I agree with those two. Mint was my first Linux OS, and i also dual booted with XP. Setup was a breeze.

I don't have any Linux running at the moment. I'll check out the ones you mentioned.
