Hey people, i have a few questions about logging onto Windows...

I have Windows XP Pro installed on one of my Computers, and just recently, it has been logging on and showing a little box asking for a username and password, all i do is press enter and it logs me on (becuase my username is already in it, and i dont have a password).

So it used to look like this: http://www.windows-help-central.com/image-files/windows-xp-welcome-screen.jpg

And now it looks like this: http://gallery.techarena.in/data/519/XP.png

Can somoene please explain to me why it has changed like this?

Also...My college has logins like this where you enter your username and password...

Do they use special software for this (like a special version of windows) or is it something different, i am looking to make users have to log on using this type of logon with the user and password from any computer on a network like it does in college, could somoene please tell me how i go about doing this?

Thanks....

David.

Now that this has been resolved...can anyone tell me more about setting the Logon so that its sorta logging in on a Network (like they do in schools and colleges) so that people log on with their username and password on any computer on the network and it will save their settings, documents and only allow them to have access to certain things...

I dont beleive it would be a simple process, but a step in the right direction would be much appreciated :)

That's what you had before. The only difference is that the Welcome Screen lists all the users.

Basically, you can create as many accounts on your pc as you want, and you can have everyone login using the Welcome Screen, or the traditional way, that you posted here about originally.

I dont mean just on that PC though...

I mean like so i can log on with a username and password on one computer.... Then log off, and log on somewhere else on a different computer with the same username and password on a network and still have all my files...
