A few questions from a newb

Okay, well I hope this is the right section for my questions.

I already have 4 gigs of ddr2 800 ram installed on my current computer but I am upgrading my motherboard for christmas and these are my questions.

1. If the board I am buying has the standard ram of ddr2 1066 will my ddr2 800 ram work in it?
2. Can I mix and match ram? ex. buy a 4 gig ram card that runs at 1066 and my 800 on that board? I know that they will only run at 800, but still, will it work?
3. Can I throw 2x 2 gig ram card + 2x 4 gig ram cards in this board and have it equal up to 12 gigs? It says maximum support is 8 gigs, but i was thinking they tested it with 4x 2 Gig cards. (sounds kind of stupid, but still a legit question)

here are the two boards i am choosing between

Thanks in advance guys. Will probably come up with a few more questions later.

1. Yes, it'll just run at DDR2800, unless overclocked or something
2. Yes, but the RAM runs at the lowest speed, so if you got 1066, it'd all run at 800.
3. Technically yes, but you may be limited by the motherboard. If it says it only supports 8GB, that's probably all you can use.

Okay thanks man.

I got another one for ya, if the board supports my socket type does that mean that it will always take my CPU?
I got the amd 9950 black edition which i believe is Phenom x4
But the board says it supports AM2+ (which i know the cpu is for sure) but don't say it supports Phenom x4, but it does support Phenom 2.

Sorry for all the confusion that comes with my posts.
Thanks again. Checking back tomorrow.

Well...you posted two boards but you're saying "the board" so it's hard to say. It's really dependent on the board itself and how updated the bios is. Assuming the board's fairy current and the chip isn't something that's just recently been released, you should be fine. Worst case with most boards, they require a new BIOS first...which requires an older processor to first boot :P

Again, sorry about the confusion. Once you told me the info in your first post here I went and picked out a different board.

That one WILL be the one i am going with if it is compatible with my cpu.
My cpu is this one here:

I am also using ddr2 800 ram, and will be buying some more of it.
Just also want to make sure that will work on the board, even though you already answered it in a earlier question, i just want to give as much info in one post as i can to make sure you know exactly (well pretty) what i am/will be running.

Also, a dumb slightly off subject question.
Will my GeForce 9500GT gfx card work on here? I am 99.9% sure it will, but just double checking ;)

According to Asus the MB should support the CPU you want.
