A few upgrading Questions

Okay well right now I have a Intel Celeron 440 Cpu.

Other System Details:
2gb ddr2 667
160gb Hd
512mb MSI 8400GS
windows vista home basic

I want to upgrade to something where I will see a drastic noticeable change. I was looking at this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...74&cm_re=775_processor-_-19-116-074-_-Product

So with the info given do you think upgrading my CPU to that will bring noticeable change?

and

Does a better CPU mean needing a better PSU? Mine is currently a 350W. So I don't want to overload.

Thanks for any help/tips!

you will see a quite large boost in power and at 67 bucks you can't go wrong. go ahead and get it. ur psu is fine and will handle that upgrade easily

Is this a custom build or did you buy a pre built pc? Can you post the motherboard specs?

Oh and what is your price range and what are you going to do with your computer?

This cpu will be a nice upgrade for your computer. Not overkill but still a good performance boost. If you can also get another set of DDR2 667 to total 4gb for your system you will have a lot better performance to go with your new cpu upgrade... especially with vista.

Possibly. what brand is your psu? a reliable brand will be able to put out power a lot closer to the specs than an off brand. here is a wattage calculator that seems to be pretty good.

Nah its an Emachines T3656. I know Emachines blows but this wasn't my original PC I bought it for my mom to use last year and I gave my old one to my Bro cause he is starting a business and he needs it more than I do.

The mainboard is an Elitegroup 945GCT-M3

It maxes out at 2GB >.<
I don't really want to spend more than $80. Im just going to be using it for CS 1.6/CSS/TF2 and hopefully SC2 When it comes out.

Thanks!

Well then the cpu upgrade will still be a good upgrade for you then. I would do it.

Make sure you have the latest Bios available, it's not a gaurantee that the E5300 will work. I can't seem to find a CPU support list for that motherboard. It says it supports core2duo, but that doesn't mean it supports anything 45nm because there's several 65nm core2duo's.

EDIT- Found the support list-

There's NOTHING 45nm on there. I would NOT buy that CPU, but rather look for a Pentium D or something like an E6600/E6700 to make sure it works. Either that, or buy a whole new motherboard and that E5300.

I'd make this guy an offer on his-

Dang, that changes everything...
I think what I'm going to end up doing is buying a new system from this pawn shop near me. I know it sounds a bit sketchy but I bought my last PC there in Dec. of 2008 and paid $200 for a Custom Built system with:

2.4 Intel Dual Core
2gb ddr2 800
320gb Hd
And a fresh install of Winxp Prof.
(Had no problems surprisingly and is still running)

I went there in Jan this year and saw a HP system with basically the same specs and with win7 for $160. So I think my best bet is to just go with what i can get there.

Thanks for the Info guys saved me a MAJOR headache!
