I'm building it for my parents. Father likes CoD and Battlefield 1942 while Mother just uses it for surfing around the internet.

Their current computer is 6 year old dell that lags while playing CoD on low/medium.
 
nah for their purposes the q6600 will be awesome for now, and then in the future they have two more cores at their disposal. quads always win in the end.

and what difference will they see from the e8400 to the q6600? the FPS will be beyond awesome in all games still, and in the future they will begin to see the q6600 pick up speed, instead of drop in speed like the e8400 will.
 
E8400 is better for gaming.
