Hi there,

I'm about to buy a new computer (in pieces) and I've made my decisions on everything except on Video Card. Unfortunately my budget is very low but on the other hand I won't need a card for a "serious first person gaming" but more for surfing in internet, watching films, and from time to time for some gaming (Championship Manager, Civilization, GTA ecc.). Naturally I wouldn't like to have a computer that doen't work from the beginning so what you guys think that could be suitable card for this combination:

- AMD ATHLON 64 3500+ Socket 939 (1000Mhz FSB) BOX
- DIMM 1GB DDR400 PC3200 TWINMOS
- HD 80 GB SEAGATE BARRACUDA UDMA100 2Mb Cache 7200rpm
- ASUS A8N-SLI SE, NFORCE4-SLI, Socket939, 1000Mhz Fsb, 4DDRAM, UDMA133, 4xSERIAL-ATA, PCI-Express16x, ATX, USB 2.0, Sound 7.1, GigaLan
- Acer 19" LCD TFT ris. 1280x1024 TCO99 Multimediale AL1917sm Silver

The choises are (All PCI-E):
ASUS GeFORCE 6200 PCI-EXPRESS 128MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 50,90
ASUS GeFORCE 7300GS PCI-EXPRESS 256MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 78,10
NVIDIA GeFORCE 6600 PCI-EXPRESS 256MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 92,80
NVIDIA GeFORCE 6600 PCI-EXPRESS 512MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 121,80
NVIDIA GeFORCE 6600GT PCI-EXPRESS 128MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 122,00
NVIDIA GeFORCE 6600GT PCI-EXPRESS 256MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 162,10
ASUS ATI RADEON X300SE PCI-EXPRESS 128MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 54,50
ATI SAPPHIRE RADEON X550 PCI-EXPRESS 256MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 67,80
ATI POWERED RADEON X1300 PCI-EXPRESS 256MB DDR VIDEO OUT € 81,60
ATI POWERED RADEON X700SUPER PCI-EXPRESS 512MB DDR VIDEO OUT€103,00
ATI SAPPHIRE RADEON X1300 PCI-EXPRESS 512MB DDR VIDEO OUT€ 115,00
ATI POWERED RADEON X1600PRO PCI-EXPRESS 256MB DDR VIDEO OUT€ 116,30
ATI POWERED RADEON X800GT PCI-EXPRESS 256MB DDR VIDEO OUT€ 148,80

I'm ready to pay more or less 100 euros (120 USD?).

Thanks in advance,
ursinus

well you're most likely going to get the best performance from the x800GT from that list. if you're not going to be doing any serious gaming then it's not a big deal. for price and value, the nvidia 7 series GPUs are nice for their price, so i'd say the 7300GS was a good choice. after that i'd say the x1600 or the 6600GT.

The 7300GS is horrible, but the 7600GS isn't too bad. Both the 6600GT and the X800GT are good, though I don't know the best of the two.

Trying to keep close to budget, i'd take the X1600Pro. The cheaper 6600 would be my next choice, if that's too expensive. Below this you're looking at cards not really designed for gaming.

Are these your only choices? The 7600GS would be better if you can get it.

yea, basically you can't get a "good card" for the LOWEST of the LOW budget. of course, 120 USD isn't the lowest of the low in my opinion...
personally, i'd get the x1600pro or the 7600gs.
they're newer cards, with newer technologies, and both cards will play newer games at decent qualities.
basically it depends on clockspeed, because they both have very similar specs.
