A friend asked me to recommend a good all round dtr but i thought id check here before telling him to get the amilo 3438g 17" for £949

Is there anything better out there under £1000



The amilo looks to be a great machine but he doesnt need a goforce 6800 so is it a waste of money? or would a cheaper graphics card and more ram or a faster processor be a better way to spend the cash?



widescreen for dvds is important but not for game playing

And no he does not need the 256mb video card if its only for watching dvd's
If he is doing video or grpahics editing (or gaming) then he would need it but otherwise i think he should be fine with a 128 mb

thats all well and good enjo, but things are considerably more expensive over here. mark, look around some more, on websites like www.ebuyer.com www.aria.co.uk and www.novatech.co.uk these are all good and cheap computer websites, and ive done business with all.

Do you have any relatives in the US? Maybe u could get them to order what you want and then have it shipped to you and you could pay them back or send them money in advance??
