A GPU that will run on its full potential?

I am looking for the best video card that suits my Athlon 3800+ system.

Current cpu specs:
socket 939 Athlon 3800+ (2.40GHz) (single core)
1GB DDR 266MHz ram (PC-2100)
7200GS PCI-e GPU

I don't want a video card like the 8800GT/GTX, i know for sure my computer will bottleneck it. I have tested the 7600GT and it works great! I did a 3dmark test and scored 22,000, however on my 7200GS i scored 5,000! A huge difference indeed. I don't think my cpu will bottleneck a 7600GT, and i know for sure an 8800GT will be bottlenecked by my cpu/ram. So i would be looking for a video card that would be in the range between a 7600GT and a 8800GT? I don't have much knowledge with the 7800gt/gtx/gs, 7900gt/gtx/gs, 7950gt/gtx/gs, 8500gt, 8600gt/gts videocards, which would work best for my 3800+?

What was the latest video card out when the 3800+ was released?

i reckon you should go the HD3850. seems pretty much in between...

would still bottleneck it tho as it performs not that far behind the 8800GT. but yeah...

Don't go for the ancient 7800 series. Are you running XP? or Vista? If you are running vista, then go for a card in the 8 Series if you are running XP then get a 7 series card. A 7900GT would be prefect for your system if you are running XP.

Although it depends somewhat on the game, in general an 8800gt will not be bootlenecked by that cpu to any significant level. But whether it's worth the money is another matter.

If you are worried, then you go for half the performance with an 8600gt, but the 8800 would be way quicker...

Of course considering that you have a 7200, even an 8500gt would probably seem way cool, and an 8600gt would be heaps.
