A little help please.

I just got a new Acer 17in LCD monitor. In an attempt to run dual monitors with my standard Dell CRT monitor. I bought the monitor from Tiger Direct, it is gorgeous. The monitor video cable I bought said it was "perfect for dual monitors!" So I said hey why not. I hook it all up but I am getting a mirroring effect (the same screen and things happening on both monitors). I want to get rid of this. Please tell me there is some way to do this using the splitter cable I have now. But if not I could purchase another PCI video card or a dual head card. Or whatever I need to run this. I have always wanted to run dual monitors and any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

a splitter will do just that, split the image onto 2 screens exactly the same

you will
a) need a dual headed card
b) another graphics card
c) check if your card has dual output, one may be vga one may be DVI, but you can convert DVI to vga with a cheap cable. What card do you have?

I just got it. It is prebuilt.

It is a Dell Optiplex GX620

Thanks so much for helping me. I am usually good with computers but apparently not with this stuff.

here is what the port look like (allow time for the image below to load)

No I do not have a DVI port.

I just looked up DVI to VGA cables and I saw that I didn't have the port.

Alright so what can I do now that is cheap and fast?

Dell Optiplex GX620
well the models come with a variety of options of graphics cards. to find out which try this
goto start menu -> run
type
dxdiag
then press enter
this should run the directx diagnostic tool (i assume you have at least some directx loaded)
on the Display tab it should show you the name of your card

we are out of sync with the post here, i will adress post 7 now.

You could just buy a really cheap pci graphics card, as long as you dont want the second monitor to have blinding graphics

I don't want either to have blinding graphics. I don't need them for anything special. Just for fun. So it is okay if it is cheap. Knowing my information now, is that the best solution? Or what do you recomend?
