a new computer....AGAIN!

hey guys!


i had two questions.

first: woudl you bother upgrading yet. especially with heavy hitters like bf3 on the horizon.

here is what i have.

win 7 x64

8 gigs of ddr2 1066 ram


EVGA GTX460

OCZ 700+ psu

core2quad e6600 overclocked to 3.1ghz



should i bother upgrading for bf3? i can run anything without problems except the dx11 version of crysis 2 which is simply too unresponsive/jittery.

if so, what would you do? intel? amd??

i know even less about AMD products than i do about intel...so unless it's a giant money saver i'll stick with intel unless persuaded otherwise.

Intel's processors are better than AMD, but AMD is cheaper. For gaming, the 1100T would do just fine. Your GPU should hold out fine. You're gonna need a new motherboard, so that means new RAM, so you can upgrade to DDR3. AMD are releasing new CPUs soon, so you might want to wait until those come out and see how they compare. Pretty much the only thing you can keep is your harddrive, PSU, and case, if you're interested in upgrading to the processors you listed.
 
The pricing did make it seem that way. Well then, what would you guys get for a new CPU?? And paired mobo? With both price and performance in mind. I want the best bang for my buck while still making one nasty machine.

Is the performance of Intel worth the upped price?
 
Yes The Larger Price Of The Intel i7 and such is worth every penny. In My Dell Inspiron I Have A Pentium Core Duo and it performs so much better than my AMD Phenom II In My Desktop. So It Is Worth It To Upgrade to even a Pentium Core Duo!
 
and what motherboard would you guys pair with the 2600k?? i think that's what i'll get.

i don't understand what all the hype is about these $250+ crazy motherboards out there for i7's.....seems unnecessary but again...i know not. i want something that's future proof so sli seems like it's going to be a must since i already have one decent video card (gtx 460) and i doubt they'll make a game anytime soon that two 460's won't be capable of handling.

on a side note, the i5 2500K that is mentioned above is for sale for 179.99 at the same store as the 2600k that's on sale for 279.99.

now after some reading i'm actually thinking about the i5....
 
Unless you're doing intense multitasking that requires hyper threading, go for the i5. You won't be disappointed.

If you're interested in an SSD, get a Z68 chipset. If not and rather focus on overclocking, get a P67.

actually...all my harddrives are junk now that i think on it. probably something i need to think about but i don't really see myself spending two hundred or more dollars on an ssd with half the capacity of my older ones.


why the z68 if i got an ssd? is that the board for sata 6?
 
It has an SSD cache and basically makes it faster. I have my 32GB that I got for about $70 and it fits Win7 64 bit and a few programs well. Got 14GB free out of 29.8GB.
 
would you still get one of those over a 1TB WD caviar black sata 6 drive? 89 dollars on newegg. not sure how much at the local store. that's what i'm currently considering.

I would use the 1TB drive as a secondary to load everything else onto and use the SSD to load up the programs and os, its what i do and it works great, you cant get away with only having an ssd unless you are willing to spend a few hundred on one.
 
okay. i guess i'll just have to give in on that one then. i see a few inexpensive ones around that size that i might look at.


what about motherboard? i'll go with the z68 and looked on newegg and they're all about the same price. 130-180 with 2 that are past my budget and a few under a 100 as well. i think all of them are sli-ready if not then most were...and they all supported 2100+ ddr3 speeds. that's as far as my motherboard knowledge goes so i'm open ears again haha.
