A puzzle...getting files on a 98 laptop...

so the optical drive doesn't work at all???????

you either have to replace a part or pull the drive. Not to mention, but I am sure you are totally aware of this, spending money on a laptop that runs win 98se is not worth it. Considering a newer laptop which would be better and run windows xp probably starts at 500 dollars or less.

Most of you guys don't realize one of the things we're trying to load on it are network DRIVERS :P

The optical drive does work, but not with the CD-RW's that we have.

okay then you must burn the drivers for a pen drive on to a CD that does work and then you will be able to copy from machine to machine.

I realized that was the case other one, but your best answers are still:

1) pull the drive, slap it in an adapter or enclosure, copy the driver files, replace drive - voila

2) get the driver installed some how on your laptop for your usb pen drives, the best method would be to burn a CD.

What I was referring to earlier about replacing parts was due to the fact I thought that your cdrom drive wouldn't read CDs at all.

is there an access panel to the HD on the bottom or sides of the laptop? If so its actualy pretty harmless procedure.

What kind of laptop is it?

Yeah, I did that with my friends laptop, but this one's not quite so easy to get into :P
