A question about installing a second hard drive

Im looking to get more space on my desktop but Im slightly confused as to what type of hard drive I can buy. I currently have this:

I was looking to buy this Seagate HDD to work as a slave drive to my Samsung:

Im a complete novice when it comes to this but Ive read up a bit about compatability between different HDD eg. ATA and SATA etc however Im still pretty confused. Could someone point out if these two drives would be compatible with each other?

I assume if you have a 40GB IDE/PATA drive, that your motherboard does not have SATA. What is your system? How old is it? Unless you get an SATA controller or converter(not recommended) you'll simply need to get a PATA drive.

Cheers, it looks like that's what I need. No point in bothering with converters etc
