I bought my computer from pcworld , and they never gave me and xp disks or anything like that. All i have is the product key for windows on the side of my case. How would i go about reformating?

Start/My computer / local disk (C:) / Format??

u can use the win98 startup disk..it has a couple of utilities on it u can format your drive using that floppy..if u have it that is

so i would have to use 8 dvd disks , that seems like quite alot.

could i complain to pcworld for not suppyliing me with any disks?

is there a partition on your c drive if so it proberbly contains a restore image,
there might be a program on your pc to backup the image to cd/dvd do that to dvd if you can then use that to reinstall windowsw

Yes you can. I run OEM software and reformat my computer regularly. As long as he has a legitimate CD key, which he says he has, then all he needs is an OEM disk to reformat. He says he does not have that so until he gets one he cannot reload the OS.

Yes exactly. He needs an OEM disk. Which of course he doesn't have, because he has an OEM computer. I am talking about the computer, not the software.

Right on the side of my computer i have a product key.
My pc is running a geniune copy of windows xp as it was brought from pcworld.
If i want to reformat it how would i go about getting the reformating software?! and when i put it all onto a disk will i just have to enter the product key..

8 disks seems alot?!

You cannot reinstall Windows using that product key. That is how those types of computers are made.

Actually I beg to differ.

I had an Acer laptop with an XP Home w/SP2 CD Key on the bottom of the laptop, and I wanted to reformat without having all that crap installed, I used a copy of Home w/SP2 that I had lying around. I used the laptop CD Key, and it worked.

All he needs is the CD its perfectly legal to use one cd and then use his cdkey he has on the side of his computer. I work for a computer company and we have asked microsoft about this numerous times. He just needs a disk with the correct os on it

Problem solved. Rang Packard bell, and they said that they dont give out disks.

But to press F11 on start up, and it worked
