A question about SLI

When you connect to gfx cards for SLI, let's say for example two XFX GeForce 7800GTs, both 450/1050 256mb and 20 pipelines, what exactly happens to the stats? Does it basically just add everything together? i.e. your gfx stats would then be 900/2100 512mb and 40 pipelines? or is there more to it than that?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't... because when you add a second card it doesn't exactly DOUBLE your performance but it gives it a good boost.

Haha

Yeah it DEFINITELY does not add up. The performance markup is considerable for sure but definitely not twice the performance. The same holds for dual core processors, where the speed does not add up.

JAN :D

Well... in my PC World magazine it says here under it advertisement that adding an "aditional card give you a gain of 80% more performance over a single card..."

lets just say is kind of like SLI is to RAID 0 sorta thing it'll increase performance but not double.

With SLI, is it possible to have the bottom half of your screen lag while the top doesnt?
i wouldnt think so. if one card was the "lagger" then the other one would just do more work, i think.
or the "lagger" brings both of em down and so it just lags the whole screen

Except that statement is 100% wrong because lag is not related to graphics performance. You can only have lag when your playing multi through the internet. Lag is when a frame is drawn late because of internet speed, "chopiness", the corect term, is when a frame isnt drawn but the next one is on time.

First off you will only see performance gains with two cards running SLI if the game supports SLI (which 90% of games do not support SLI).

Here is a link that shows SLI VS non SLI systems. SLI doesn't really kick in until your resolution is increased or adding AF and AA.

At this point you may want to rethink about SLI and buy a high end card.

haha, Thats not true either you can lag while playing single player games easily, its just comenly when your playing multiplayer because in that case it ussaly is caused by your connection, but even then your hardware can cause lag. My pc used to lag in HL2 when there was alot going on.

Ok so it was like 50% wrong lol... I realized once I got in bed that what I posted was incorect :o.

34erd, dude, buy two videocards in SLI conf. as an investment in the future. Right now it doesn't really boost as much as you would want it, but in the future...probably all games will support it and maybe than it will (with the help of new drivers and stuff) give a much better performance than a single card. But if you look at the present, than i don't think it is worth the money buying two videocards.
