Just have a quick question for people that have multiple OS installed in their system.

What Kind of Joy you get by having 2 Operating systems installed?

I think it’s a very bad/stupid idea. Not only you killing your hard drive space, but also your system's performance. And as far as software compatibility, I think the recent version of windows has enough stability to be compatible with most of the software.

I see lot of people get into problems and asking solutions, when the real problem is having 2 Operating system installed.

So give me your input why you need to have 2 operating systems on your PC??

For Others.. Do you Agree with me...?

If you have some old software that you need to run and you cant get it to run with XP then you could dual boot it with 98 so you can run that software.

How many do you know have several computers bouncing around to install single OSes on?

I have one dedicated XP machine, one firewall appliance, an old Linux file server and a P4 running XP/Slackware... I can't do anything with the firewall appliance, that would be counterproductive. The server is antiquated at best (try K6-2 400MHz with two 4GB drives), so the only place to run a good Linux install is on the P4.

I also need Win on it to do work which needs to remain separate from the home computer that everyone uses (read: Windows hacks and tweaks)

For a normal user, there is no reason to use multiple OS's

Personally as a programmer, I use SUSE Linux, Slackware Linux and XP Pro to program, and as a repair tech, I also use multiple OS's on other systems to pick them apart for security reasons, repairs and my own enjoyment

Yes,,, I agree with above opinions...
It just some people I guess do that for fun and then end up getting errors and errors....:D

Well i have XP Home and i installed XP Pro x64 on another partition, but it was only so i can see what it was like.

On my computer i have a 160gb hdd, partitioned it into a 100Gb section and a 60gb section. Installed Xp pro on the 100Gb partition, then i installed xp home, media, 2000PRO, 98, and 95. So when i start up my computer i can show off to my friends. Also i like xp media because i like there menu for whatching movies but i like xp pro to mulit task etc.

my got I have half a TB filled with video and music

Is it all legal? Thats either a fortune invested in media or a lot of time illegaly downloading media. Either way its not worth it. Could someone possibly ever listen to that much music. Theoreticly yes but realisticly no. Even is someone did you would only hear a song once or twice.

BTW, just out of curiosity how much music?

lol
It took about 2 weeks total to get all that using DC++ and an 11MB connection
Rules are different where I am... ;)

and I stream it all over shoutcast on 6 different radiostations (Rap, Rock, Classic Rock, Classical, Metal and Club...plus I got a shit load of Jazz, Blues, Reggae and Oldies), and I use the machine as my TV and my Stereo (building a sound system for it tomorrow actually with some scrap car audio we got layin around)
