Hi guys,

Hi,

I received my Recertified: ASUS MS227N Glossy Piano-Black / White 22" 2ms(GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor this morning, from newegg. The shipping was fast, but a little pricey. I was happy to open my box, but then, I saw in horror that A SINGLE SCREW, the one that fixates the screen to the base, was MISSING. I do not wish to return the screen, as it is working, so here is my question: DO YOU KNOW HOW I COULD OBTAIN THE FREAKING SCREW?!?!? It's an amazingly stupid situation I'm in. I have this big nice monitor, and yet, I can't use it because someone just forgot to put a tiny screw in a box!

I already wrote to newegg.ca and told them: "Please answer me fast, because newegg.ca may lose a costumer very soon."

Thanks guys, please help me, I'm pissed at the entire world right now, lol...

Provided that it isn't a standard screw you can pick up at the hardware store, I would contact ASUS, what can Newegg do for you?

Also, why would you stop being a customer of Newegg? Newegg isn't to blame, if you are mad at anyone, it should be ASUS. When you cool off a bit you may realize that it was just an accident and ASUS didn't purposely leave the screw out.

Im sure if ya contact newegg or likely the manufacture and give them the model number and they will mail it to ya.

Yeah, I contacted newegg and I'm waiting for an answer. Contacting Asus would be useless, because it's a recertified monitor, so I have to contact refurbsaver.com, which I also did.

I don't think it's Asus' fault, because in the box, I found the little bag in which the screw probably was, and it was already opened, so it's probably the guy who tested it at the refurbishing company who didn't put it back in the box...

The screw in the manual looks like a big unique plastic or metal screw... I highly doubt I could find an equivalent screw in a store...

strollin, I realize it was just an accident, lol. I'm just really pissed off at the refurbishing company, and at newegg for doing business with them...

Thanks guys, I'll tell you about the answers I'll receive (If I receive any...)

Ok, so I contacted newegg, no answer, I comtacted the refurbishing company, no answer either, so I asked to do a RMA procedure with newegg. (I send it back, and since it's out of stock, they can't replace it, so they will give me my money back...)

I am so disappointed in newegg... This f****** monitor will have cost me about 150$ total, and I will probably only get 100-110$ back... so 40 hard earned bucks in the garbage! Oh, and did I mention no other monitor than an old 17" big old monitor until I buy another lcd screen?

Aside from the missing screw, I saw that the protective plastic layer that they put on the screen for shipping was hiding something: a 2 inch crack on the plastic border! WTF?!?!?

Anyways, I don't know if I'll continue buying there. It'll depend of how the retrun procedure goes, I guess...

Do you feel you gave Newegg or the refurbishing company ample time to respond to your inquiry about the screw? I would at least have waited 24 hours for them to respond before requesting an RMA. If you gave them a little more time maybe they could help and you wouldn't be out the $40.

That's one of the drawbacks to buying on-line, often times you take the hit for the shipping charges on returns. I have had good luck with Newegg with defective products, they have paid the return shipping charges.

I think we have all been in similar situations and can understand your frustration that you can't use the monitor. I hope they can get the situation solved to your satisfaction.

And the biggest thing of all: are you really going to stop business with them because an issue with a refurbished product. If it was new, then I would be upset too, but there is always a higher chance of having an issue with a refurb than a new one.

I suspect NE doesn't refurbish. Or at least didn't refurbish the monitor or ship it w/o parts and cracked. They prob. never had it out of the package.
I think a phone call to CS (escalating to a supervisor if need be, but in a nice way), explaining the missing part and probable shipping damage, and your rightful concern for not paying shipping and getting a full refund, or at least have that $ credited to your NE account when they recieve the product back, would have went a longway in getting out of the scenario with only your time.

Hi guys,

No, didn't go to a hardware store. The missing screw is, if I believe the picture in the user manual, quite unique: a big plastic screw with some kind of curved bar on top to twist it into place. Plus, I don't go to hardware stores in the vincinity of my house, since I have been there before and consider them thieves. For example, I went to one of those stores a few monts ago to get a ddr3 2 Gb memory stick for my laptop. I didn't know a lot about computers, especially not prices, so when I went there, the seller saw that I was a newbie, and he said: "Oh, I can't just sell it to ya, I really have to install it. DDR3 is way more complicated to install than DDR2, you know, hahaha. It's gonna cost you, of course." So I was there, I needed that memory, and he didn't want to sell it to me unless he installed it himself. You know how much he charged me? For the one 2 Gb memory stick and a 5 minutes installation (I was like, are you kidding me?!?!?): 110$. For a tiny stick and 5 minutes with a technician... Oh well, what's done is done, right? And I don't think I could have lived with that crack in the border, finally. I said I could, but I don't think I could have. It was quite long and a bit or the plastic was pointy and on the screen.

New egg is NOT the one who refurbished the screen, that I know. I know it's a company called refurbsaver.com, or something like that. However, when you sell something you bought from a refurbishing company, it's the MINIMUM to just open the box and see if everything is in there. I mean, if you don't, you accept the risk of selling crap. Also, since it's refurbished and replacement only, they replace it unless they don't have it in stock. So I'll get about 110$ back. And I don't want to fight for 40$, sincerely, my life is complicated enough as it is...

I consider that I left them enough time, they still haven't replied. It is very disappointing, especially from newegg.ca, which seems to be a trusted company. I'm not saying I'll stop doing business with them, but if there are problems with the return process, it will seal the deal, as they say.

Anyways, I'm gonna go to a post office and ship it today. I just want this whole story to end as soon as possible. It should be around 15$, so it's not that bad...

Take care,

By hardware store I think they meant a place that sells tools, wood, plumbing fixtures, etc. not computer hardware stores.

Oh... then I'm sure they don't have this kind of screw in store. I have already returned it anyways, so they should receive it by thursday/friday... And then I'll have to wait for either my money (which I think will happen), or a replacement unit (which will probably not happen, since this model is out of stock) It really sucks that they didn't answer me... Even bestdirect.ca replied to me in a few hours when they messed up my OS order...

As was already said here websites typically take between 24-48 hours to respond to emails. If you need a quick response calling them is always the best option.

Well, it's gonna be 48 hours soon and still no reply. So I think I did a good thing by returning it... Luckily, I'll just get my money back and buy another monitor from bestdirect.ca...

Still no reply, but at least, Post Canada told me that they did receive the return package, so if I believe newegg.ca website, I should receive news from them in 3-4 business days, before that hopefully, because I'm sick of my old 17" monitor that takes half the space on my desk, lol.
