A weird message popped up today when I turned my PC on.

Now I remember last night when I went to shut off my computer it went through an update screen even though I wasn't aware any new updates were downloaded, so I expected when I turned on my computer again that it would finish the updates installations like it always does. Well when I turned it on this morning, the first screen red 'updating registry operations' - or something like that, I don't remember exactly how it was worded - but I found it weird because it popped up before my BIOS screen even flashed, BIOS flashed through AFTER this registry updating thing went through, then my OS booted obviously. Anybody have any idea what this could of been? Good/bad? Just wondering because usually when an update finishes it finishes after the OS is partially loaded, right before it actually logs you into your user.

I think it must not have been off then? Maybe it was on standby or even just the monitor powered off... Nothing can touch the registry before BIOS loads. It's a simple matter of fact. Is the computer running good though?

Do you have a laptop that runs Windows Vista or Windows 7? If so, I'm going to agree with deanj20 that more than likely the computer just didn't shut down all the way and was in the process of doing the last step of the updating process, which is to restart the computer.

I'm on a full machine with Windows 7. And I'm not sure man, because I have all of those power conserving modes off. When I hit shut down to shut the computer off for the night, it did its update phase - then went completely black so I turned off my monitor. Woke up in the morning, turned the monitor on, pressed my power button and it turned on and loaded that screen.

Main reason I'm sketch about this was because I've been a little nervous about a certain person trying to hack into my machine. I posted another thread about that situation around last week, but it got locked - you can still view it though. But yeah, today I was gonna take my modem up so my IP would change atleast - which I did. But before I got the chance to I saw that weird message, anything weird I see I'm like ahhh. Who knows though, maybe it was in standby, when you're in standby does your computer fans shut up? Because the fans on the case I have [Coolermaster Scout] are quite loud when the computer is on, and I'm certain things were peacefully quiet last night until I turned my computer back on.

There are two updates that have taken place, though, maybe somebody knows what exactly they are. "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB975496)" And the other one is the same but (KB980408)

Okay it couldn't of been in Hibernate because I just put it in that mode, the computer appears to be off yes - but when you turn it back on and it gets to the booting the OS up you have to click your user icon to jump into it, which I didn't have to do this morning.

Sounds fishy... I'd unplug your computer from the net for now, get malwarebytes and hijack this on there via a thumbdrive, and run them in safe mode followed by posting the logs. cheers.
