How does one go about getting A+ certified? Where?

Yup. Study study study.
I'd recomend you buy a book on the A+ course first... read it, then read it again, then go for the course. That way you should be prity certant to pass and not waist your money. I was going to to do the test, had bought the books and was about halfway through them when i got my current job... haven't gotten up the motivation again to finish reading it then do the test
Have you thought about doing the MCSE or similar course instead?

Is this somethin like Cisco Cert. where you need to re-certify after every couple yrs or so?

if you want a job fixing computers it will help, (but that doesn't pay much). If you want to get into IT (networks & stuff), you'll want certs like Cisco, Linux, Microsoft (MSCE...), and the ONLY cert that doesn't require to recertify ever is A+, all others do eventually.
