A64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz OCed or 6400+ 3.2GHz

Currently the local Canada Computers doesn't have any Intel Core 2 Duo's in stock so I have to go with AMD. I have never OCed before and am wondering what is the better choice from the thread topic. Also, the 2.6GHz only has 1MB Cache while the 3.2GHz has 2MB cache.....if that helps the decision. And the 2.6 is $70 cheaper which is nice.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (65W) Dual-Core Socket AM2, 2.6GHz, 512KB x2 L2 Cache, 2000MHz HT, 65nm

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (125W) Dual-Core Socket AM2, 3.2GHz, 1MB x2 L2 Cache, 2000MHz HT, 90nm
 
From what I have heard the 6400 run hotter.But the 5000 will OC to 6400 speeds.So I would go with the 5000 just because it is cheaper.
 
Thanks for the input, would you by chance know what kind of effect the lack of cache will have on the 5000??? Also, I would have to buy a decent CPU cooler, thinking something along the lines of:

OCZ Vendetta CPU Cooler For Sockets AMD 754/755/939/AM2
 
The cache will not make a huge difference. If you do notice it, it would be a little when you're playing games.

I as well, vote for the 5000+ BE
 
The 6400+ will overclock a little better, and run a little faster because of the cache. But it really comes down to the price.

With the 5000+, I'd expect 3.0Ghz stable. Maybe 3.1 if your lucky. Anything above that, it will probably only be benchmark stable.

Yes mine is the black edition.I bought it just to overclock and I was not impressed at all.So I went to the local computer store and bought a Intel E6750 and it does 3.8 ghz stable and runs cicles around any AMD I have owned.I know AMD's are cheaper but you get what you pay for.So now my 5000+ BE and MB are on Ebay...

why in hell would you buy an amd 5000 when you had the ability to buy a 6750? if you would have spent five minutes on google it is easy to see that the 5000 isnt even meant to compete with the E6750

I wanted to support the little guy(AMD).Plus I didn't do enough research before buying.

lol....the store I was going to get it at doesn't have anymore 5000 BE's in stock :( Guess I shoulda mentioned that haha
