I have tried using the ASUS BIOS Overclocking features that came with my MOBO; however, while the BIOS says my CPU s overclocked, Everest adn CPUZ beg to differ. Bascially, they don't show the CPU as rnning faster.

Any Idea what I'm ding wrong? Could this be an artifact of my poor PSU, which is in the process of being replaced? (damn non-existence of teleportation to get my orders here quicker...)

I'm not a seriousl overclocker so I'm not looking to cange aything big time, just maybe the 10% allowable in the onboard utilities for the crap of it.
 
What did you try adjusting in the bios to OC the system there? There are 3 different ways to OC an Asus board.
 
huh, are you sure that your bios is saving you ocing options, if you oc in the bios and then restart the computer a couple of times, does the bios still show the overclock?

ps. Nice avatar, if seen it in 2d but not 3d.... do you know what that picture is representing?

I have tried using the AI Overclock option mostly and I believe I did save the settings and they were still there on restart. I think I also tried the Auto Overclock feature.

Thanks, It is the sensory homonculous, basically a human with features enlarged for increased sensory function. I can't remember how I found it, but I believe it was at the Museum of Modern Art website (I think); I also use it as my desktop...

If you go into the BIOS setup with this board you have an option for "jumper free configuration". Fromt hat menu you have a few options for overclocking; standard, auto, manual, and two ASUS specific options AI Overclock and N.O.S. Overclock.

Using the AI Overclock is supposed to be simple, single adjustment overclock option.

I had tried it a few times with the results lised in my original post.

However, today I tries it again and it seems to be working; i.e. I set the AI Overclock Feature to 10% and Everest has my CPU is overclocked by 10% to 2420 MHz. I have recently flashed the BIOS with the latest version for the ASUS site, which must have done the trick.
 
I have this problem with my motherboard which is the same one you have, when I overclock my CPU and if Floppy Disk is disabled it doesn't show in windows (CPU-Z) that my CPU is overclocked (but it really is), however when Floppy Disk is enabled in BIOS it normally shows that my CPU is overclocked.

Have you updated your BIOS lately? I don't have a floppy, but it seems to b working correctly since I flashed the bios.

Yea, I flashed it right after new version came out, that was like 3 months ago or so, no new version since then.
 
SO Everest is now calling my CPU an X2 4600+ in the overclock section; in the rest of the CPU info it has it correct.

I'm thining that a 10% boost will be enough to satisfy me for now, and it should be stable with stock cooling.

The only thing is SANDRA says my FSB is set wrong, and I don't belive I can chnage it (I don't think there even is one truely with an AMD proc) using the AI Overclock. Will that destabilize the system?
 
You may want to install the Asus temp probe utility to monitor cpu temps there. A small 5% increase here saw the usual 34-35C see 40C when idle running a far better then stock cooler. That was with the A.I. there. Most of these settings are preconfigured to run stable. But high cpu temps is the one thing you want to avoid at anytime actually as well as when OCing.
 
Yeah, I had been using EVerest, but am pretty sure thatthe temp probe wasn't really lining up correctly (Idle at 25 C seems a bit off). Pc Probe gives me an Idle of 36 - 38 with the overclock, which should be OK. I am recording and runnin 3d Mark 06 to see how high it gets.

I ran 3d Mark 06 with the temp monitor and I got a load temp of 54 C. That is with stock cooling and and stock "thermal pad".

I have some AC5, but haven't applied it yet, I will rpobably do that now to see if I can keep the temp slightly lower.
 
Ok watch out when you go to reseat the cpu and apply the AS5. Only run the system for a few hours at first and shut it down to sit overnight. When AS5 first goes on it needs a little warm up time and then starts to bond after cooling for several hours.

If you run it too long right after the temps will go through the roof! I tested the OH protection here by letting this one climb upto 60C where the system suddenly shut itself off. You don't want to let it go that long.
 
I have the same problem with my mobo, none of my utilities for OCing seem to work. i also havent solved the problem. Would flashing my BIOS to the latest help? i dont want to hijack this thread, but it has been bugging me.

It seems to have worked for me, you can get the bios from the ASUS website.

Alos, according to fillip you have to have a floppy enabled in the BIOS as well. I can't attest to this as mine has been enabled the entire time, although I took the drive out a while ago since it was making a racket...

Grrr! i got the .bin file for the latest BIOS (0905), but i have removed my floppy, and im not sure i can use the new in- windows updater. I know a USB floppy will not work, and i dont want to have to reinstall my old IDE one.

In the BIOS just say you have one, I don't have a floppy, but it says I do and the AI OC seems to work (i'm a 2420 MHz)

Not quite what i meant. I meant that it looks like i have to update my BIOS using a floppy, and i cant use one.

Ah ha, the ASUS Update utility can flash your BIOS without leaving windows. You can download it from the website, along with the BIOS etc.

Don't try to do the automatic download with ASUS Updat, just download the BIOS separately and use the utility to install it.

Oh, and I'm using BIOS 0902.
