A900, Adding Fans & Removing Top

Alright, so here's my Antec 900 at the moment...

Temps are as follows;

CPU -
Idle: 31c
Load: 53c

GPU -
Idle: 38c
Load: 57c

I want to add some more fans, hoping that it'll help to cool my PC... Yes, even more...

I know if I wanted to mount a fan on the side, I'd have to cut some of it off, because it won't fit with the Tuniq Tower... Anybody done this, know where and how much to cut off? Also, think it'd be worth it?

Any other ideas and general cooling-ness!

How do you remove the top of the Antec 900, It's a pain in the ass fitting the Tuniq Tower, so I want to remove the top so I can get to it a LOT easier when I come to upgrade the CPU and such.

I have no problems with a 120 on the side cover simply having gone with the Zalman 9700 for this build replacing the 9500 on the last one. 53C with load?!

I don't think the cooler is doing the job needed there. The case fans are quite adequate even without the 120 added on since the case design sees to that with the twin 120s in front and a 200mm on top where heat usually ends up trapped being nothing but a solid panel seen there.

You must be continuously trying to keep it oced since the 125w cpu here won't break the 40C line after running day and night and actually sees a drop in cpu temp when going to game at all. Water cooling will do more for seeing an actual lower cpu temp.

I can't see anything wrong with cutting something off the fan as long as it doesn't interfere with anything, like screw holes and fan blades.
You could crank those fans up a notch!!
Like PC eye said if you really want to cool your parts any more, water cooling would work well.
An air conditioner blowing cool air into the front of your case would do the trick too! Not to mention one of these!!

Does a fan on the sad actually improve airflow? I don't see how that would work. Won't it just mess up the front to back current of air?

I would think another fan on the front might help a bit though.

Those temps are about the same as mine!! I have 6 fans total but im using a stock hp case. I did put one on the side!! There was a honey comb pattern already in the side panel just for ventalation but i zip-tied a fan on there to suck air in and put a fan on the back to blow it out. My gpu runs at about 40 and the cpu at about 29-30.

Being that the 900 already sees good air flow the additional side fan won't move that much air to see higher temps drop down much. This is why some cases will see a large 250mm side fan since they lack in the front for intake.

If you are leaving the cpu oced all the time then the higher temps have to be expected. This is why many look into water cooling over simply relying on any 3rd party cpu cooler. When doing that you are constantly placing a stress on the cpu itself over simply seeing the occasional oc and a good load placed on it.

By adding a 120 you could see an improvement with the card's temps bringing the high temp down a little there. An Antec blue led 120mm fan sees about 15.88mm for thickness when mounted onto the plastic plate the 900 has there with the large plastic retainers. Antec managed to do aways with the need for 4 fasteners.
