About AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600 & 4800

So I was checking out the specs for AMD 64 X2 4600 & 4800 Dual Core Processors and they both seem to have the same operating frequencys and FSB. If they both run at 2.4GHz and have 1GHz FSB, whats the difference between the two CPU's besides the price? I obviously know that the 4800 series do perform a lot more quickly but I still don't understand what makes it so much faster... Also do these processors generate a lot heat? I know its a vague question but I thought AMD procs didnt generate as much heat as Intel procs.
 
The X2 4800+ has twice the L2 cache of the 4600+

That was an issue with the first generation P4 Prescott series, which has been resolved.

yea, AMD procs dont put off much heat especially at default clocks and voltage. if you've got the money id say go with the 4800+, then your processor will perform better than mine :)

I should have clarified earlier, Intel processors do generally run hotter, but also have a higher safe operating temperature. The overheating issues, which I assume is what you were referring to, were a problem with the first generation Prescotts. That issue has been resolved.
 
yea really... thats why i got the 3800+ lol... runs like a 4600+ though :)
getting either will be extremely fast though-- no lagging at all!
 
Well I plan on getting a notebook that comes with an AMD 4800 or 4600 proc., and I'm going to be using it for school, games, multitasking :], and computer animating. I'm probably going to get this laptop in hopefully three or four months... This laptop is going to replace my desktop, thats why I want the best processor.

Then consider the Intel Duo if you want to be able to game on the go.
 
Why Intel? AMD is better than Intel by a fair margin when it comes to gaming.. is it reversed with laptops? I find that.. quite strange.
 
are they going to make an amd processor with 64bit and dual core for laptops? I'm thinking about which proc to get right now and still cant make up my mind... Intel core duo or AMD Turion... intel has dual core & amd has 64bit.
