Hello

I have a question regarding the decible level of a computer fan .
Im building an home theater, and I want to cool my component cabinate with 120MM fans.
Im looking at some at Staples.... they are rated at 37 D/b.... is that considered loud ?
I can order fans off the net @ 20 d/b ...

Just wondering how much of a difference that would be ?

Thanks

I use a Corsair H60 liquid cooler that has a fan attached to the radiator. That's rated at about 30.2 dBA. I don't think 37 would produce much more noise. In my opinion, that's not bad at all.

Be sure to consider the air flow movement capabilities of the fan as well. My Corsair is rated at almost 75 cfm. That's pretty decent. If you're wondering between the noise levels, check out the air flow movement. Also consider the idea that you could have a controller for your fans so you can choose how quickly the fans turn. That could regulate noise as well as air flow.

db is a linear scale, so 40db is twice as loud as 30db, so you've got nearly double the sound going from 30db or 37db.

CFM means nothing really, you want to find static pressure stats.

For fans, I recommend Scythe Gentel Typhoon 1850rpm's (GT-AP15)
