About To Purchase Console, Lots Of Questions

I was about to buy an xBox 360 but then in pricegrabber.com, they had a refurbished version for 100$ cheaper. I went to check the site out and to me it looked a little sketchy. They don't have much for sale. Im not sure what it is, i just feel awkard and feel nervous sending money there. The site is: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/EZKLiquidators/ Has anyone heard of this or know anything about it? How can i tell if its legitamate or not? Im kinda broke right now ;) so if i could save 100$ thatd be awesome. They have a phonenumber so i could call but i wouldnt know what to say.

Also, while i was there i saw they had a PS3 20GB for 414$. I know that model has been discontinued in the US so I was wondering if there is a reason not to consider buying that instead of the 360. It too is refurbished wich brings me to my next question. I know refurbished means it was fixed (usually by the manufacturer) but are there dangers in buying a refurbished product? Is it more likely to break?

Pretty much, i just need advice on if its okay to buy the refurbished xBox or PS3 (20GB) and if this site is legit.

mm no suggestions?

I guess this is more computer oriented. Does anyone know of a strong forum about/for console gaming? Does Ian have one going?

Sorry if asking to be refered elsewhere is against rules, i figured im not looking for another computer forum, id never leave CF, you guys are awesome, just looking for a more console oriented forum.

I don't know. If I were you I would just look for a PS3 or 360 at a retail location or from sites like newegg.com for brand new. Refurbished can mean a ton of things and it doesn't guarantee that the system will work after the first use. Save up your pennies and buy a brand new system with a warranty. I know they're expensive but saving $100 by buying a refurbished system may end up costing you alot more in the end. Ask friends if they know someone trying to get rid of one of their systems. Many people have traded in their PS3's because they didn't like it and didn't get alot back for the return. If you find someone who is looking to get rid of one, ask them how much a GameStop or EB Games is willing to give them for their trade and offer them that amount plus another $10. They'll probably do it and throw in a few games and that way you know you have a system that works, plus you might end up with some games too. Good luck!

Yeah, i think ill buy it from walmart. They have some nice deals.
I got a sort of weird email when i asked them a couple of questions.

Yea at this point I'm HIGHLY suspicious and would encourage you to stay away from them. It sounds as though they may not be a legit company after all and could be what we called at my previous job in a fraud department at a bank as a "cardable site." Basically it could be a false website set up for people who have obtained credit card number to test the card and also get merchandise at the same time. Again I would encourage you to take your business elsewhere.

To answer your question about the 20gb PS3, that's not a bad route to go if you're looking for cheap. I think the only difference between the 20gb and the 60gb versions are the 60gb has an hdmi out port and obviously a bigger hdd. So if I were you, try to find a 20gb version before they're gone. Try Amazon.com or somewhere like that to see if you can't find one.

I agree that response is very sketchy. However, there is nothing wrong with the 20GB version, it's just that Sony is phasing that version out in the US since it basically didn't sell at all, especially compared to the 60GB version. But, now they are considering putting an 80GB version instead of just going with a 120GB version, that doesn't make sense. Anyway, don't trust that company, 20GB versions are just a model that didn't sell well, and refurbished models are usually fine if they are repaired by the manufacturer, especially since they usually also have the same warranty as the new models.
