About to RMA my 6800...

OK, I'm practically positive that my video card is the problem. I read the recent error very carefully and it said it was with nv4-disp.dll, or something like that. SOoo considering my comp passed the stress tests and mem tests, that must be it, right? O.o

Anyway, here's my question. I have an aftermarket cooler on my card. What should I do? I still have the old one, but would this of voided my warrenty, switching it out and all? I mean, the problem occured before I did this so I know it's nothing I did to it... I'm just wondering how this should be handled. I guess there's no way for them to send me a card without a HS...should I even ask?!

I beleive replacing the fan on your card probably voided the warranty, thats usualy the case with hardware, if its tamprered with or tweaked or whatever. If you have the old fan though, it shouldnt be a problem putting it back on, as long as the company doesnt notice that its been removed.

I agree... try to put the old fan back on (if you still have it) and then try to return it. If they don't go for it, then oh well but at least you gave it a shot.

I started to send an RMA request but I just asked if they'd cancle it... Not only have I modified the card, but I'm not sure if that's the problem anymore. I stuck the old HS on the card, and just for the heck of it, I started Prim95 doing the most intensive test I could, started up my TV-Tuner, opened 12 MP3's, opened a quicktime preview of SinCity, had taskmanager open, AND played Race Driver 2 on the absolute highest detail settings. Of course my machine didn't run it perfectly, but it was quite playable and NEVER locked up or anything...

I give up... I let it run a game while I ate supper, but when I returned it was locked up on a black screen. I reset it, I got another BSOD. I let it do it's thing, then started another game for a bit while I finshed up supper. Came back and the screen was all glitchy and shit. I reset it... Now it seems to be fine.

Take it back and get a new one. They wont recognize you have changed the HS :) And I suppose there is only one way to find out...;)

I got it from newegg, so I can't just take it back. I checked about an RMA, but as I figured, I've had it too long. I'm just going to deal with it for now. I might try and go back to windows XP.
