"access denied" can't access HDD. Help!

Due to complications with my laptop battery being unable to hold power, I took the HDD and put it into a USB enclosure, So I could transfer the important files I need onto my new laptop.

When I attempt to open the drive on my new laptop, it says "access denied", after seeing this I claimed ownership for the files, and still get that message.

Would it have anything to do with my old laptop being password protected?

If anyone could give me some insight, into retrieving my important files, it would be greatly appreciated!!

That would only be the case if the HDD was encrypted or you had a HDD pw setup in the BIOS. Then again, that would cause the drive to not even mount in windows too. You can't copy them to a different drive or anything?

If you were setup as Administrator and that you set your profile for only you can use it. That is where the problem lies. You would have to open that profile up in the laptop to where anyone can use the drive, before transferring it to a external.
