Accidently put Coppermine cpu in PPGA 370 Socket!

Help! I put an Intel Coppermine 700 mhz cpu (FC-PGA) in a PPGA socket (533 mhz) and powered up the computer. It came on briefly, then turned off. I replaced the processor with the correct type, now the PC will not power on (the power light/HDD lights just flash). It's my kid's old HP Pavilion 4445 with an Asus MEB-VM mobo. Did I fry it? I'm trying to clear BIOS by pulling the CMOS battery, as I can't find a reset jumper on the board. I'm afraid my carelessness has cooked this sucker and the kids are going to get an upgrade.

the PGA370 is the right socket for the coppermine. the problem with the 700MHz was probably an old BIOS version that didn't like the faster processor.

From what you're saying, it sounds as though I just need to reset the BIOS and I should be OK. I'll give it a shot today and report back. Thanks...

Still no luck...the fan on the power supply spins up when I hit the power switch, but stops almost immediately. The power light on the front of the case just flashes. I checked power at HDD, etc. Reads 3.0V I think the mobo is toast for some reason.

Took out my multi-meter. 12v wires measure 5.32v, 5v measure 2.31v. PSU fan spins, but slowly. I think my power supply is shot. Weird coincedence or did the cpu cause this? I'm wondering if this is even worth replacing?

Yep, your PSU is dead. Try replacing it, if it still doesn't work you can always return the new PSU. My guess would be a coincedence, maybe something else happened when you were replacing the CPU
