I just connected a Acer 19 LCD monitor to my wife's PC, but the XP system does not see the monitor as a Acer, just a Plug & Play generic.

I have the Acer driver on CD that I downloaded from Acer, but the XP system does not see it as needed.

How can I trick the PC to accepting the new Acer monitor

It really doesn't matter because the performance of the monitor will always be the same as the specs of it.

Not this time

The 17 inch Dell she had had perfect resolution, and it had the Dell driver for it installed. The 19 inch Acer's resolution is not as good with the Windows Plug&Play driver.
She notices there is ghost in the font type. If you look close you can see it. The 17 inch Dell didn't have any ghost images in the font type.
But the color is better on the Acer

I was hoping the proper Acer driver for the Acer monitor would satisfy her.

Hope you can understand why!

Download the driver from Acer. Unzip it. Go to the device manager and open the monitor/plug and play. Click update driver and direct it to the driver in the unziped file.
