ACER Battery

I have an Acer 5601 and bought it a year ago and it came with a 8-cell battery...which lasts a good 4-5 hours..but after a year now It dies in an hour...where can i get a new battery i cant find it anywhere for this model...are batteries model specific or just brand specific? should i get anohter 8 cell or should I bump up thanks!

I'm curious, did you always plug it in if you only used the battery for say, 15 minutes, or did you let the battery run down before plugging it in again?

Most of the time I used it was on campus so it wasn't plugged in..I wud charge it overnight, take to campus (maybe plug it into one class for an hour?) and then the rest of the day it was on battery....unless it ran out then i carried the cord with me just in case (but rarely need it) now i need it after every class....

why? is that a factor in battery life?

where would i find batteries for Acer 5601 anyways? acer site or another site? and like i asked is it model specific or can different models fit into one brand type....thanks hope that makes sense?

what battery wud u reccoemmdn ..my price range is under $100 preferably..as low as they come obviously but i nee AT least an 8 cell if not more

No I don't think so...I think most warranties are 1 year...I remember i got mine on a labor day sale last year for a nice deal so its october...anyways...money isn't too big of a deal I was just having trouble Finding a battery in the first place for it...I googled it but no luck

its an Acer 5601 AWLMi and it already has an 8 cell battery

how long are batteries supposed to last anyways? a year? mine lasted a year and a month or so..

I think so I was looking at that....but I can't decipher the ratings

what does 4.4 amps....4400 mah...14.8 volts...and 65.12 watts...and lithium ion mean....

i mean i know lithium is better htan nickel..but how much battery life are we talking..mine just said 8 cell battery when i bought it...whats the measurement of how long the battery will last for each charge? mah? amps? volts? watts? or cells

if so how is this relative to an 8 cell battery?

Right now I have a 14.8V 4800 mAH battery

thats the max i saw for it and how long they last depends on how much you use it and there isn't anything I know of to make a battery last longer just make sure that u use the battery and don't have it charging all the time

just make sure that u use the battery and don't have it charging all the time

so its better to charge at night and use during the day without the charger? and let it run out before re charging?
thanks a lot for your help....95 bucks out of a poor college fellows pocket...oh well gotta play games in class :-)

anyways I genuinely appreciate your help..all you guys
I had a question about laptop memroy but i wont bother you with that in this thread

yep

lol

if u didn't create a new thread already then u can pop it in this thread since its a general laptop thread or u could create a new thread in the memory section

Ok Well Since its the same laptop (Acer) in my sig...I only have 512 mb memory...and I think its plenty...but I have two slots...and I would prefer to get another 1 gb just for the heck of it
so a couple of questions

1) Is it easy to install laptop memory (Ive done desktop but never laptop)
2) if 1 of my sticks is 512 can the other one be 1 gb?
3) will it make a HUGE difference going from 512 mb to 1.5gb
4) will more memory take more battery life?

thats all thanks!

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Yes

Hope that helps :D

PS - Try the freeze trick. Buy the battery (if you want to) and keep the older one in the fridge for an week. When it comes out leave it in the sun. Might be able to gain some batt power from that. Also turn down the screen contrast, defrag regulary so it keeps the HDD from searching everything for an file, Get an lower RPM hard drive, turn on HDD off or screen off in power management, turn on SMART fan or Speedstep.

really or am i getting my leg pulled? sorry everything else you said sounds great but i don't know enough about these things to tell haha ..sounds kinda funny ...

Yeaah screen contrast is down and so is like performance ( i keep it on low in class)....I try to defrag regularly but sometimes it says too little space (should i delete some of my porn?)...I'll remember to do HDD off in power management...what is smart fan or speedstep?

1) Used only in NICD or NIMH batteries... but LI-ION might not work, give it an try. I recently acquired ($200) of Armada E500's from ebay. All had batteries not charged since like 2003-2004. 1/7 would charge (like 10 minutes) put the rest in the fridge, next day I got an 2 hour battery up. After all, you have nothing to lose...

Yeah try deleting some of that stuff... too little could cause inefficiency... SMART Fan/Cool n' Quiet keeps your fan at lowest RPMs, but when you get to full load, it speeds it up.

Speedstep reduces your MHz by half or so to save power. It rises to the normal speed once again when it is needed. Saves power and life.

Will this work for cell phone batteries? I just got a new cell phone battery...and stuck my old lithium ion battery in the fridge.,...its not gonna blow up or anythign is it when im sleeping?
