I have an Acer Aspire AM5641-E5620A Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4Ghz, 3GB DDR2, 640GB HDD, nVidia FeForce 7100 Graphics, Super-Multi DVD R/RW, Audio, GLAN, Card Reader, Keyboard & Mouse, with Vista Home Premium.
I have a win7 dvd I downloaded and burnt from Microsoft. When I boot from the DVD all appears to go well then the computer brings up a screen that says....your machine has been shut down to avoid damage to your computer....
This message comes up whether I try Ubuntu , Win xp or Win7. I have disconnected the Acer provided drive and installed another primary hard drive and the message is the same.
I have a feeling this is a function of the modified AMI Bios (states specifically designed for ACER) and Acer motherboard (proprietary) that is configured in a non standard setup.
Has any one experienced this problem with ACER or other computer?
Is there a work around or link wher I could get more information?
Cheers...Gerry
PS. I emailed ACER and took their response to mean that this system was setup for Vista and essentially they are not interested in other S/W related difficulties, and went on discussing warranty implications etc.
