Acer or Toshiba?

Hi all,

Need a spot of help choosing a new laptop. We've had a look around and at the moment we're looking at either:

1. Acer Aspire 5920 on play.com for £429 GBP
2. Toshiba A300-177 from PC world at £499 GBP

Hard drive space isn't really an issue as we have a WD 500GB back up drive, and will be primarily used for word (gf is a journalist) and internet browsing. Basically we won't be playing games/storing masses of photos or watching films etc - this is not our primary PC (already have an overclocked monster in the house).

What would you recommend out of the 2, or are there any others we should be looking at? £500 is our limit.

Thanks in advance

Ainsley

I would say Toshiba. Acer, to me, is an ok company. However, whenever I see their laptops, they always seem to have everything but looks and a decent graphics card.

I'm no expert. But considering that my old Acer laptop was $700 and provided only a very minimal performance, I'd definitely go with the Toshiba.

I go with Toshiba. I love it. I'm a student and it is still going strong after being banged around in my bag and all.

I'm not a Toshiba fan by any stretch. I've heard some really bad stories about their laptops.
