Acer v Windows Restore

Could someone please explain to me the benfits of Acer eRecovery Management over system restore in Windows Vista please?

I got an Aspire 6920 today, and as well as being my first laptop and Acer it's also my first Vista machine.

It seems strange (to me! I don't have much knowledge of these things! LOL) that the two things perform similar functions but Acer wants around 9GB for the file and Windows is nothing like that.

Thank you.

They are not similar functions.

Windows System Restore is a non destructive restore utility that may or may not restore your pc to an earlier state, without you losing your installed programs and data. This is in case you install a bad driver or such that you want to "undo".

The Acer Recovery Management allows you to fully return your pc back to it's original purchased state, wiping all your data and programs. This is handy if you've gotten a virus that won't be rid, or you just want to start fresh with Windows.

Thanks for the reply B23.

So, the Acer option will reinstall a fresh Windows + any other programs only, you had installed at the point you created the file?

Whereas a system restore will revert settings/drivers/versions etc?

I get what you're meaning, I just want to understand more.

Acer Recovery will revert to the factory purchased state.

All your programs and data will be gone.

Windows Restore will just back up Windows to an earlier date, keeping
all your programs and data.
